Tag med os, når vi på tværs af generationer diskuterer betydningen af at være ung i en europæisk sammenhæng, og hvordan de unges udfordringer i 1980'erne ligner de unges i dag. Talken vil tage udgangspunkt i den lettiske dokumentar af Juris Podnieks "Er det let at være ung?" fra 1986.

Vi inviterer dig til at deltage i denne talk, så vi sammen kan finde svar på, hvordan forskellige tider og systemer præger unge.

Med kommer Mette Alsing Schwartz, formand for ungdomsorganisationen Silba Aarhus, og Elizabete Klera Boze, medlem af ligestillingsforum HeForShe Latvia. Sammen vil de undersøge, hvordan vi kan lære af hinanden på tværs af alder, geografi og historisk erfaring. For at hjælpe os med at bygge bro over generationskløften, vil Rikke Helms være med i panelet. Som tidligere direktør for Det Danske Kulturinstitut i Riga (1990-2003) vil hun give et historisk perspektiv på lettisk og dansk ungdomskultur både i dag og under sovjetregimets undergang.

Lidt om dokumentaren

Dokumentaren "Is It Easy to Be Young?" skildrer en tid i Letland, der har en forbløffende lighed med nutidens verden. Podnieks film giver et sjældent indblik i identitetsdannelsen blandt unge under de sidste år af den sovjetiske besættelse af Letland i 1991. Med udgangspunkt i klip fra filmen vil danske og lettiske ungdomsrepræsentanter diskutere identitetsdannelsen og den usikkerhed, som politiske og samfundsmæssige forandringer har medført både i 80'erne og i dag.

Arrangementet foregår på engelsk.

Arrangementet er lavet i samarbejde med Letlands ambassade, Silba Aarhus og Aarhus Festuge.

The question "Is It Easy to Be Young?" is as relevant today as it was in the 1980s and has been asked in different political systems in different parts of the world. Join us, as we across generations discuss the meaning of being young in a European context and how the challenges of youth in the 1980s resemble those of youth today. The talk will be based on the Latvian documentary by Juris Podnieks "Is It Easy to Be Young?" (1986).

We invite you to take part in this talk, so that we together can find answers on how different times and systems shape the youth.

Meet representatives of Danish and Latvian youth - Mette Alsing Schwartz, chairperson of the youth organization Silba Aarhus, and Elizabete Klera Boze, member of gender equality forum HeForShe Latvia. Together they will discuss how we can learn from each other across age, geography and historical experience. To help us bridge the generational gap, Rikke Helms will join the panel. As the former director of The Danish Cultural Institute in Riga (1990-2003), she will provide valuable insight as well as a historical perspective on Latvian and Danish youth culture today and during the demise of the Soviet regime

A bit about the documentary

The documentary "Is It Easy to Be Young?" depicts a time in Latvia that bears a stunning resemblance to the world of today. Podnieks' film provides a rare insight into the formation of identity among young people during the final years of the Soviet occupation of Latvia in 1991. Based on clips from the film, Danish and Latvian youth representatives will discuss the formation of identity and the uncertainty caused by political and societal changes both in the 80s and today
